One Piece fans are on cloud nine this year, especially with the release of the anime series’ Netflix live-action adaptation, a new video game One Piece Odyssey, and its 15th movie, One Piece Film Red. Seems like it'll be solid.Updated on October 11, 10:17 a.m. I'm not hyped to play the game but that's because I'm not a fan of the anime but I will be picking it up. It feels stiff when he reaches the end point and just falls down. One thing I'm not crazy about is using Luffy to grab onto something to propel yourself forward. But I feel they do enough to make it feel different. Gameplay definitely gives me Dragon Quest vibes but I think that's obvious from watching videos. It's an original story but from what I've read, the game will take you to familiar places. The story itself seems easy enough to follow. If you're aware of the anime, you'll feel more connected to them as opposed to someone like myself who doesn't know anyone lol but that doesn't bother me. You do see a bit of their personality while playing. Not much backstory to them in the beginning but I'm sure that will clear up as you play. They do introduce you to many characters right from the start. This wasn't on my radar before but the demo sold me. Been using quality and it runs fine, imo. You can't skip them but you'll have the ability to speed up battles in general. During these battles, things like "enemy attack is increase" or "damage dealt increased" can happen as well. If you want to catch up with that solo character, you need to defeat the enemies in front of you to proceed. Enemies might gang up on 1 character while the other characters have to deal with enemies on their own. During these situations, your party might be split up in different areas. There are times where a Dramatic Battle can happen. Maybe someone in your reserves has a type that can help you out. You can swap out characters for others during a battle, and you still can act afterwards. If the enemy is a Speed type, switch to a character who is Power to deal more damage. This is why being able to choose who acts first is important. Certain enemies are weak/strong against them. Normal attacks have a Power/Technique/Speed type. Turn based battles (4 person party) but what's cool is you're able to choose who acts first on your team. As someone who knows nothing about the anime (or anything about this game in general), I've enjoyed my time with the demo.
